The Anti-Aging Research in Proxofim (FOXO4-DRI) Peptides
What is FOXO4-DRI?
Proxofim is a recent dutch invention. It contains a specific peptide antagonist named FOXO4-DRI. It is a modified protein type designed to trigger selective old cells’ death. The discovery of this peptide analog has accentuated the attempts for aging reversal. Data suggests promising results during its initial testing in mice. FOXO4-DRI peptide bears the potential to promote longevity, reduce dementia, and suppress tumor cells as well.
How does it work?
Cellular biologists have found that human cells exhaust after 70 divisions and can no longer produce new cells. There is no way to induce the continual division of cells without any decay. Getting rid of older cells is a viable option to make space for younger cells. Damaged cells tend to spread the decay process as well. Old, decayed cells are suitable for nothing as they produce no energy. In addition, they keep occupying space within and between cells, hindering the growth of surrounding cells.
FOXO4-DRI peptide mainly works by removing these ‘senescent cells’ that have outlived their usefulness. The most effective senolytic agent to date; ceases the communication of cells with p53 genes and conveys signals that the cell is damaged and needs to be cleared by autophagy. Stem cells produce new cells after the death of old cells. More individual cells replace the older ones culminating in better functioning and longer lives.
Research Implications from FOXO4-DRI Trials
Potential Anti-aging Properties
Mitochondria is the ‘powerhouse of the cells’ as it generates energy. The energy currency of the body is called Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP). The organisms produce it inside the mitochondria due to several complex reactions. Lysosomes are responsible for removing cellular debris. They work as a dustbin of cells and remove old dead cells. If any of these structures becomes compromised, body functions decline with time.
The effective removal of old cells is the basis for longer life. An accumulation of old dead cells serves no purpose and keeps occupying space and harming surrounding cells. FOXO4-DRI is supposed to play a role here in removing these decayed old cells.
Studies found that test mice became healthier as compared to the control group. Mice in the test group achieved better energy levels, enhancing hair growth and improving kidney functions with this protein.
Potential Diabetes Management
FOXO proteins regulate insulin signaling and insulin-like growth factors (IGF). FOXO proteins control cell growth, metabolism, and differentiation by acting on IGF. Future research may explore the effects of FOXO proteins in insulin signaling. This action may improve diabetes management and its related complications.
